I was recently asked to direct a “lyric video” for Beck’s new single “WOW”. One caviet – we had eight days to pull it off. I collaborated with designer Braulio Amada and animator Antonio Vicentini and tried to create an aesthetic that reflected the movements of the track – a piece of music which starts off modernist in the extreme (all trappy 808’s drums and weird fake pipes) and then transforms into dreamy psych pop. We had to come up with a visual concept for every line in the lyrics – which on an eight day deadline was pretty challenging. Hopefully we pulled it off.
